Looking For Answers

This is my very first, but hopefully not my very last blog post.  I don't know blog etiquette (or even if there is such a thing), so please bear with me while I learn my way around.

I don't have any one single subject that I want to talk about, so my intention is to just say whatever is on my mind at the moment.  It could be politics, sports, entertainment, or just what I had had for breakfast.

But I want my first post to hopefully draw some people in and see how many people will respond.  How better to do that than discuss politics?  I'll state right up front I'm a Republican.  But before you stop reading, just know that I also support some democratic or liberal issues as well.  Some (many?) will say this disqualifies me from being a "true" Republican, but whatever.  I believe what I believe and I support what I support.  So be it.

One political issue I'm trying to understand the liberals on is the economy in general and taxes specifically.  And this is where my title comes in.  I like to think I'm open minded, and  if there is a Democrat or liberal out there who can answer this for me, I'd be open to hear your side.

All I ever hear from the Democrats regarding taxes is "fairness".  First of all, who determines what is "fair"?  Our taxes were originally scheduled to go up on January 1.  The president and liberal congress kept saying that billionaires didn't need any tax breaks.  They could easily absorb the increase.

First of all, I think that was very disingenuous.  The taxes were not only going up on billionaires, it also going to heavily affect small businesses that happened to GROSS more than $250,000 per year.  Is $250,000 now considered to be BILLIONAIRE status?  And the worst part is that every time a liberal politician talked about "the rich getting richer", not one person ever questioned them about the small businesses being affected.  Not one.  So yes, I think the media can be very liberal and very enabling.

I have to tell you that I am solidly "middle class".  I don't even make $100,000 a year, so I am not being a hypocrite, and shouldn't have any reason to be supporting the rich.  But I do support them, and I just can't for the life of me understand why people want to paint them as evil.  Somebody please explain this to me.

Here's why I support them: J-O-B-S.  I can already hear the first argument: Cutting taxes does not guarantee businesses will hire.  That is totally true.  No guarantee at all.  However, what do you think will happen if their taxes increase?  If I'm owner of a business (which I'm not), I'm probably going to do one of two things (if not both):  raise the prices of my goods or services and/or lay people off.  And guess what?  I'm STILL GOING TO BE RICH!  And the only thing that was accomplished was higher prices and a higher unemployment rate.  But hey, we stuck it to the rich, right?

Another argument is that the rich don't need to buy another yacht or Lear jet.  Again, that's true.  But who do you think MAKES the yacht's and jets?  They just appear out of thin air?  I don't think it's a millionaire or billionaire who's sweating inside a factory making those things.  I'd be willing to bet it's a middle income man or woman who's working there to support their family.  And it would be that man or woman who may lose their job because we "stuck it to the rich".

I could be wrong on all this.  So I'm asking all my liberal friends out there to show me where I'm wrong.  Don't just talk about "fair".  Tell me how raising taxes on ANYONE is good for the economy.  As far as I can tell, it's only good for the GOVERNMENT.  But then again, the government needs the additional income to support all the additional people they put out of work.  Yeah, that's fair.

Just sayin'
